Continental Mapping Awarded USFWS Contract for Imagery and Lidar in the Yukon Delta Wildlife Refuge

November 19, 2012 -- Continental Mapping Consultants, Inc. was recently award a high accuracy aerial imagery and lidar acquisition project for the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge near Bethel, Alaska. USFWS needs high resolution DTM, breaklines, and features derived from low altitude stereo imagery for modeling habitat and hydrological gradients along two river systems on the refuge. The data will be used for research projects to model surface and groundwater interactions and for restoration planning, thus necessitating the need for accuracy that only lidar in conjunction with aerial photography can provide.

The Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge covers more than 19.5 million acres and was established to conserve shorebirds, seabirds, and marine mammals. The delta includes Alaska’s two largest rivers and their tributaries, creating hundreds of miles of spawning and rearing habitat for 44 species of fish.

Continental Mapping Vice President of Sales and Marketing Paul Braun said, “This project is an excellent addition to our portfolio of environmental work within the federal government.  We are excited to continue to deliver aerial imagery and lidar mapping services for the US Fish and Wildlife Service.”

Headquartered in suburban Madison, Wisconsin, Continental Mapping is a leading provider of geospatial data development services and holds a deep background on federal government projects. True to our slogan “Mapping from Earth, sky and space,” we offer a range of services that include full service land survey, lidar based and traditional photogrammetric mapping, and mapping and remote sensing services from commercial satellite data.
