Antix Announces Collaboration with MIPS Technologies to Deploy High-Quality Integrated Services for On-the-Move and In-Home Gaming

Driven by Increasing Consumer Demand to Share Games Off-Network across Any Screen

Reading UK-- October 12th 2012-- Antix Labs announced it is collaborating with MIPS Technologies to provide integrated game services that will work both in the home and on-the-move. Antix’s rich media service is designed to work across devices—regardless of operating system, hardware, input device or screen resolution. Through this collaboration, consumers will be able to play and share high-quality games on MIPS-Based™ phones, tablets, TVs, set-top boxes (STBs) and other consumer electronic devices, both across the internet and off-network.

Antix’s unique and flexible end-to-end, multi-screen distribution format, player and store support all market-acceptable business models including freemium, subscription, time-based, ad-based and others. Antix technology addresses challenges including:

  • Restricted Network bandwidth: Advanced, emerging and growth markets all have insufficient available bandwidth; off-network distribution is important to meet consumers’ expectations of performance and the ability to distribute content virally between friends.
  • Consumer anticipation of high-resolution graphics and audio capabilities—even for casual games—to match the increasing capabilities of home and mobile CE devices.
  • Consumer expectations of instant share and play when in immediate proximity with their friends and families: consumers can share across a provider’s network and also off-network using Wi-Fi and even router-less distribution technologies such as Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth.

Antix enables rich media gaming combined with true social gaming so that consumers can virally share, challenge and play when in the same location, without any dependency on access to an external network.

In the home, Antix enables subscribers to use different devices to play collaboratively, to have different views on different screens and to provide a rich gaming experience without the expense of specialist equipment. With MIPS, Antix games can be pushed beyond the home across MIPS-Based phones and tablets so that consumers can take their games when they’re on the move, extending viral distribution and social play. Uniquely, all off-network distribution is done in a manner to protect the rights and the revenues of the publishers.

MIPS Technologies’ industry-standard microprocessor IP enables SoC companies to develop low power, high performance, low cost chipsets, which are deployed widely across consumer entertainment products including DTVs and set-top boxes (STBs), and increasingly in Android tablets. The combined efforts with Antix will enable MIPS licensees to offer a full service to their OEM customers, including the optional use of the Antix Game Store across all aspects of consumer devices. The Antix Game Store operates across the world both under its own brand and as a white label.

According to Gideon Intrater, Vice President of Marketing, MIPS Technologies, “In a fragmented universe, Antix is providing a unified, high-quality, end-to-end game service for a range of products and consumer use models. We are pleased to work with Antix to enable our licensees to leverage its innovative gaming solution across their devices and markets.”

Francis Charig, Chief Executive of Antix Labs said, “MIPS has continued to retain a large share of the home entertainment processor market and is now making inroads in tablets and phones – its ubiquity is impressive and understandable given the cost, performance and power benefits of the architecture. It’s a perfect platform to showcase the important consumer benefits of play and share that the Antix Game Service offers.”

About Antix Labs, Ltd. (Antix):

Antix has developed the Antix Game Player incorporating a consumer-focused distribution file format and service that makes games even more viral than music and video whilst still protecting the rights and the revenues of the developers. It enables consumers to copy, share, challenge and play with others not only via a service provider’s network but also off-network by means of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. Antix connects consumers across feature phones and smartphones, tablets, TVs, set top boxes, PCs and other devices even when a provider’s network is inaccessible, intermittent, slow or full as is the reality in home and on mobile across most of the world. The company offers the Game Player, corresponding tools, certification mechanism, optional white-label store and an optional game warehouse necessary to deploy a complete service offering. The Antix Game Service is being used as a core gaming component by major operators, broadcasters, device manufacturers and retailers across the globe. Headquartered in the Reading Enterprise Centre in Reading, England and with offices in America and Asia, Antix was founded by Francis Charig, its current Chief Executive and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer.
