The SierraVisor hypervisor for Cortex-A9, Cortex-A15 and ARM11 is now available for download
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2012 — (PRNewswire) —SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Sierraware, the embedded virtualization company, today announced the release of an open source hypervisor for ARM-based devices. The SierraVisor Hypervisor allows multiple operating systems, such as Linux, BSD, or Android, to run concurrently on any ARM11, Cortex-A9, or Cortex-A15 platform. With SierraVisor, guest systems can still access the secure world provided by ARM TrustZone technology, so each guest system can protect sensitive data like digital rights managed applications, encryption keys, and payment card data.
SierraVisor's paravirtualization technology minimizes modifications to existing software and applications. A small number of non-intrusive hypercalls are inserted into the guest operating systems, reducing overhead at run-time. SierraVisor also offers robust multicore management, supporting both symmetric and asymmetric multiprocessing to manage system utilization.
The SierraVisor Hypervisor:
- Extends the life of applications by simulating the previous generation of hardware. Equipment vendors can swiftly migrate to new processors without porting existing software.
- Allows legacy real time operating systems to run simultaneously with new open source platforms like Linux, BSD and Android.
- Streamlines development by supporting SMP and AMP process management.
- Reduces hardware costs by enabling a single device to perform multiple functions such as data plane and control plane processes.
- Maximizes availability by segmenting critical processes running on one guest operating system from less essential processes running on another guest operating system or mirror applications on different operating systems for redundancy.
- Secures sensitive data with a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) available for every guest operating system.
"SierraVisor provides affordable, high-performance paravirtualization for ARM-based hardware developers," said Gopu Subramanian, CTO of Sierraware. "Our hypervisor is well suited for a variety of different devices including networking, industrial, automotive, and consumer products."
