Bentley Systems Mourns the Loss of Colleague Salvio Lerner: Corporate, Brazilian, and Industry Leader

Commemorates Mr. Lerner’s Exemplary Life and Career by Naming ‘Inspiring Leader’ Company Award in His Honor

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 10, 2012 — Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provider of comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, sadly reports the sudden passing of its good friend and highly respected colleague Salvio Lerner, Bentley director and professional services practice leader for Latin America, on 5 September 2012. Mr. Lerner joined Bentley in 1997 and played a key role in the founding and development of Bentley Brazil. He also was instrumental in facilitating the company’s expansion across Latin America. To commemorate his exemplary life and laudable service to Bentley and the infrastructure community at large, Bentley has named its “Inspiring Leader” company award in Salvio Lerner’s honor. Mr. Lerner is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; daughter, Karen; and son, Vitor.

Bentley Systems CEO Greg Bentley said, “Salvio’s passing is a tremendous loss to all of us at Bentley, as well as to the entire community of infrastructure professionals. This past January, I had the privilege of presenting Salvio with the annual Bentley CEO’s ‘Sleep at Night Award,’ which is given to one colleague (among our thousands!) whose dedication, attention to detail, and consistent history of doing the right things for the right reasons make it possible for the CEO to sleep at night. During the ceremony I commended Salvio for his competence, judgment, strength of character, and myriad contributions to our company.”

He continued, “From the founding of Bentley Brazil, Salvio held virtually every nominal responsibility, from technical director to professional services executive, for all of Latin America. But when I visited Brazil last year, I could see that his consistent priority, and the source of his own deserved pride over these decades, had been the development of our fine Brazilian team and the user relationships that he and they cultivated so fruitfully. Salvio always had the time and expertise for reassuring and effective fraternal help for everyone. He set an unassuming yet powerful example, for me and for all of us at Bentley, and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers go out to his wife and family.”

During a special joint session on 6 September 2012, the Bentley Systems Board and Executive Committee, on behalf of all Bentley colleagues, users, and constituents, resolved that the CEO’s “Sleep at Night Award” will permanently be renamed the “Salvio Lerner Inspiring Leader Award” – to express to Mr. Lerner’s family their appreciation for the exemplary life and career inspiration he provided. The purpose of the award hereafter will be to annually recognize and promote the leadership attributes embodied by Mr. Lerner.

Commenting on Mr. Lerner’s inspiring work as a corporate leader, Alfredo Castrejon, Bentley territory vice president for Latin America, said, “Salvio was our lighthouse in Brazil; he always knew where to go and where to lead his team. His strategy was really simple: always do the right thing and stick to the plan. It is a very sad time for all Bentley colleagues, but we will continue our way forward, inspired by our memories of Salvio and the many things he taught us.”
