Toshiba Expands High-Performance Memory Card Family With First microSDHC(TM) UHS-I EXCERIA Products

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- Sep 05, 2012 -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today announced that it will expand its family of EXCERIA™ [1] memory cards with the addition of microSDHC versions. The new cards offer the industry's leading performance in this format -- which is the smallest currently available.

The EXCERIA series, named to reflect a combination of "excellent" and "experience", offers cards fully compliant with the UHS-I Memory Card Standard [2]. The minimum recording speed is compliant with UHS speed class 1 [3] and SD speed class 10 [4]. These cards deliver the capacity, speed and performance needed to support the capabilities of the latest personal digital equipment, including HD video recording and continuous image shooting with digital cameras. Toshiba's EXCERIA family includes versions offering the world's fastest data transfer speed for an SD memory card.

The first microSDHC EXCERIA cards to be introduced will be the Type HD series. Designed for use in extreme conditions, these new water resistant [5] memory cards are ideal for demanding applications such as professional and sports photography -- where high reliability is essential.

The Type HD series of microSDHC cards have a maximum read speed of 95MB/sec [6] and a maximum write speed of 30MB/sec. The first models will be available in Q4 2012, with capacities between 8GB [7] and 32GB.

Toshiba, the company that invented NAND flash technology and a world leader in the NAND flash memory business, will continue to meet market demands by enhancing its line-up of high performance SD memory cards.

Notes:
[1] EXCERIA is a trademark of Toshiba Corporation.
[2] UHS-I is the ultra high-speed interface Memory Card Standard Ver. 3.0 that delivers data at a maximum bus transfer rate from 25MB/sec to 104MB/sec.
[3] When it is used in a UHS interface compliant device, the minimum read and write speed is 10MB/sec.
[4] The minimum read and write speed is 10MB/sec.
[5] According to Toshiba tests based on the IPX7 standard.
[6] Maximum read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size. For purposes of measuring read and write speed in this context, 1 megabyte or MB = 1,000,000 bytes.
[7] Product density is identified based on the density of memory chip(s) within the Product, not the amount of memory capacity available for data storage by the end user. Consumer-usable capacity will be less due to overhead data areas, formatting, bad blocks, and other constraints, and may also vary based on the host device and application.
