BAE Systems Merges Multiple Geospatial Technologies into a Single Product to Improve Analysis and Increase Productivity

SAN DIEGO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 23, 2012 — BAE Systems has achieved a milestone it envisioned several years ago to design and build a powerful geospatial-intelligence software product from the ground up. SOCET GXP® v4.0 merges the full spectrum of mapping and analysis capabilities — image analysis, geospatial analysis, photogrammetry, and remote sensing — into a single package. Commercial, defense, and government customers worldwide can now use the same tool to create and share a wide range of products, from complete 3-D city models to GeoPDF intelligence reports.

“Ten years ago, we began to see convergence in the various mapping and analysis disciplines,” said Jeff Allen, general manager of BAE Systems’ Geospatial eXploitation Products business. “To address this trend, we built SOCET GXP to integrate multiple geospatial capabilities into one product, eliminate the redundancy of specialty packages, and reduce operating, maintenance, and training costs.”

Novice and expert users are now able to take advantage of new SOCET GXP v4.0 workflows to complete projects in a fraction of the time required by other products. Version 4.0 features real-time, interactive 3-D views synchronized with 2-D imagery to simulate the operating environment. Built-in cue cards offer step-by-step instructions for creating and auto-texturing building models and other geospatial processes on-the-fly. SOCET GXP v4.0 also features new LiDAR analysis, Triangulated Irregular Network terrain modeling, and automatic feature extraction capabilities to accelerate tedious manual tasks.

SOCET GXP v4.0 uses imagery and video from government and commercial sources to identify, analyze, and extract ground features quickly for improved situational awareness. It reads and processes data natively to save excess steps such as importing and reformatting data. Data discovered in GXP Xplorer, BAE Systems’ latest data management tool, can be loaded into SOCET GXP v4.0 for further analysis. The software also is compatible with popular geospatial products such as TerraGo® 2-D Publisher and 3-D GeoPDF, Google Earth™, Esri® ArcGIS Server, and Esri geodatabases.
