Utilizing Google Maps for photos and directions, LSDNav - a Global Positioning ("GPS") tool - updates LSDs in real time, even when outside of mobile coverage. Latitude and longitude coordinates from the built-in GPS are automatically converted - then displayed - as the legal subdivision, quarter, section, township, range and meridian. The convenience of instantaneous LSD conversion also promotes road safety, obviating the need to key-in information while driving. Should the user need to enter a destination waypoint, spatial virtual keyboards are activated - an advantage for users unfamiliar with the Dominion Land Survey numbering system.
Altus' LSDNav app - offered in Lite, Standard and Pro editions on iTunes - is nominated in the "Innovation in Geomatics" and "Contribution to Society" categories of The David Thompson National Geomatics Awards - established in 2006 and presented in conjunction with Professional Surveyors Canada to honour the innovation, dedication and creativity of commissioned surveyors across the country.
"We're proud to be nominated for an award considered a symbol of excellence in our field," said Daniel Lachance, President, Altus Geomatics. "Our team recognized a need for further innovation to facilitate the often complex survey process - and responded to it with a robust, value-added solution. Since its initial launch in 2010, LSDNav is making a positive difference for thousands of users, helping them perform daily work safely and efficiently, while giving them a unique competitive advantage."
Award winners will be announced during a gala ceremony at the upcoming National Surveyors Conference in Regina on June 8, 2012.
