OPEN MIND at Swiss Plastics - hyperMILL® minimises programming time

Wessling (Germany), 21 December 2011 – OPEN MIND Technologies, the CAD/CAM developer, is presenting intelligent strategies for optimised manufacturing in the tool- and mould-making industry in Hall 2, Stand 2021 at the Swiss Plastics trade fair in Lucerne. With hyperMILL®, OPEN MIND is strongly supporting automated programming and the clever utilisation of existing manufacturing expertise. hyperMILL® offers a comprehensive concept that integrates 2D, 3D, HSC, 5axis and mill/turn strategies. This concept is augmented by CAD software, CAD integrated functions, CAD direct interfaces and postprocessors that are developed to the specific needs of the individual user.

OPEN MIND’s presentation at the Swiss Plastics trade fair is completely dedicated to accelerating processes, from the development of tools and moulds to their manufacture. Macro and tool databases, clearly structured job lists and the addition of features using drag & drop ensure that the programming of NC programs will become increasingly efficient. A uniform, intuitive user interface for all applications ensures that continuous processes are clearly structured and easy to use.

hyperMILL®’s pocket feature recognition now also detects grooves in open and closed pockets with bottoms. In practice, this means that parallel walls are recognised as grooves and their centre contour is displayed. This feature enables the groove to be machined with one cut, without additional design input.

External CAD models can be used for stock definition

Before actual machining begins, hyperMILL® helps the user with its intelligent and dynamic stock definition. Stock contours can be generated from the surface models and solids of any CAD model. For arbitrary stock roughing and material removal simulation, the 2011 version of the software now enables surface models to be used for defining the stock.

For fast material removal, OPEN MIND offers hyperMAXX®, the high-performance machining strategy.

“For all tasks that might include ‘shelling’ roughing, or machining with a tool shank, our new hyperMAXX® can be used,” explains Peter Brambs, head of the Global Engineering Service Group at OPEN MIND. The new model, which is also used from the hyperMILL® interface, allows higher cutting speeds while reducing wear and tear on both the tools and the machine.
