High resolution aerial oblique imagery being used to verify sketch data, improve record accuracy, and reduce field costs
ROCHESTER, NY, December 6, 2011 – Pictometry International Corp., the leading provider of measurable, aerial oblique imagery and analytic tools, announces the launch of Pictometry® Sketch Check. This powerful new Pictometry reporting tool analyzes existing property sketches quickly and easily, enabling assessment officers to dramatically improve operational efficiencies while ensuring fair and equitable property valuations.
“Validating sketches is a critical part of the valuation process but the task of maintaining sketches and keeping them continually up-to-date can take years. With Sketch Check, it can be done in months,” said Robert Locke, President of Pictometry Government Solutions.
Pictometry Sketch Check uses CAMA-based sketches to create geo-referenced shape files that are compared with high-resolution orthogonal imagery. Discrepancies are flagged and categorized by degree, then recorded in a convenient report so users can verify sketches quickly, easily and accurately from their CAMA system without leaving the office.
“The operational efficiencies that can be achieved with Sketch Check can benefit an entire community,” added Wayne Trout, retired city assessor in Norfolk, Virginia and past president of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). Pointing to the fact that verified sketch data is a valuable foundational record and can be shared with E9-1-1 and planning and zoning departments, he added “Any tool that makes a more comprehensive and thorough review possible also helps eliminate the guesswork. That helps officers focus on what matters most: systematically and comprehensively identifying and recording property changes that could translate to millions of taxable dollars annually.”
Pictometry Sketch Check aligns with the sketch component of IAAO’s 3.3.5 standard for mass appraisal and is one of several innovative solutions in Pictometry’s suite of assessment solutions including orthogonal, oblique, street view imagery and change detection technologies. To learn more, visit
