The Governor's Manufacturing Advisory Council will address the tax and regulatory climate of Pennsylvania, as well as talent and innovation, research and development, energy and international opportunities helping to continue to position the Commonwealth to be a more competitive state to do business. In addition, the Council will issue a report to the Executive and Legislative branches including policy suggestions and a strategy to help Pennsylvania remain competitive in today's global economy.
"I am honored to have been selected by Gov. Corbett and his administration to help lead this Council and look forward to developing solutions that will advance Pennsylvania's manufacturing sector," commented Carlos Cardoso, Kennametal Chairman, President and CEO. "As manufacturers, we have a responsibility to be part of the solution by partnering with government, not relying on it, to make change for the future of manufacturing."
Along with Cardoso, Department of Communication and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker will help co-chair the Council. The Council will consist of 23 members from a cross-section of manufacturing interests including heavy manufacturing, minerals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, steel and textiles. Additionally, three manufacturing trade associations including one from the Industrial Resource Center will also participate.
"Manufacturing adds more than $75 billion in value each year to our state's economy," Gov. Corbett said, "and it is paramount that we do all that we can to preserve and support that sector of our economy. The Council will research issues and make recommendations that will further strengthen that industry and ultimately allow manufacturers to add jobs for Pennsylvanians."
