Ottawa – November 7, 2011: Geomatics Industry Association of Canada (GIAC) announced today that it will hold its Annual General Meeting in Ottawa, on Wednesday November 23, 2011 followed the next day, Thursday November 24, 2011 by its annual GIAC Day-on-the-Hill event.
“There has been a lot of activity this year in promoting and gaining broad support for GIAC’s advocacy agenda including from senior bureaucrats and politicians at the Federal level.” said GIAC chair and acting president Mr. James Ferguson, OLS, OLIP. “GIAC is continuing to advocate on behalf of the Canadian geomatics profession with an agenda that benefits all GIAC members by linking geomatics to Canadian productivity, competitiveness and innovation – key priorities on Canada’s national agenda. GIAC believes this message will resonate with Canadians at large, and will assist in helping government define geospatial priorities for the nation.”
The AGM will be held at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel beginning at 1:00pm with the annual business meeting followed by a general session from 2:00 – 5:00pm and a networking reception at 5:30pm. The following day GIAC members will meet with Members of Parliament and senior bureaucrats to discuss the importance of geomatics technology to Canada’s future. In previous years more than two dozen GIAC members met with over 40 MPs during Day-on-the-Hill events.
