TomTom introduces innovative new tool for site selection and outdoor advertising

ITS World Congress, Orlando, FL, October 17, 2011 – TomTom introduces Custom Probe Counts, a traffic product providing an indicator of traffic density for roads globally.  Geo-marketing agencies, insurance companies and other customers can use Custom Probe Counts as an additional dataset to complement traditional tools, creating efficiencies and increasing confidence in their location based studies.

Leveraging TomTom’s historical traffic database of more than 4 trillion anonymous data points, Custom Probe Counts reveals the number of GPS probes driven on any stretch of road and over any period of time and day. Custom Probe Counts output is accessible via an internet enabled computer and results are available within hours.  TomTom offers coverage for the product in over 40 countries globally.

Custom Probe Counts provides another layer of information that will enable smart location based decision making,” said Maarten van Gool, Managing Director of TomTom Licensing. “With this new product, TomTom is helping bring additional efficiency and accuracy to our customers, ultimately changing the way analysis is conducted and locations are assessed.”

When considering the best location for a building or billboard, or to assess health and accident risk, Custom Probe Counts provides customers with a toolset that does not require the installation of equipment or the effort of field surveys.  As the data is generated from existing sources, it also means that retrospective and before/after studies are available promptly on demand.  Analysts using Custom Probe Counts can quickly and efficiently determine the ideal sites for new buildings or outdoor advertising.
