Sydney, Australia – 6th September, 2011 - Pitney Bowes Business Insight, a global leader in customer data, analytics and communication software and services, today announced it will be the first organisation in Australia to provide an address validation and geocoding solution with verified National Address Management Framework (NAMF) certification.
Governed by ANZLIC – The Spatial Information Council - NAMF provides an overarching set of standards for the process of verifying an address and exchanging digital address data between government departments and organisations. The stated overall aim of the NAMF is to provide a unique address where one address equals one location.
“I am pleased to see that Pitney Bowes Business Insight has achieved the first certification of its compliance to NAMF. PSMA Australia was contracted by ANZLIC to implement the framework and develop the compliance certification scheme and I encourage all other companies that provide address validation services to also achieve certification“, said Drew Clarke, Chair of ANZLIC. ANZLIC was involved in the development of NAMF and, as its custodian, developed the compliance framework.
The primary drivers for creation of this framework have been the financial and human costs of unreliable address data, which have rapidly risen as the range and use of digital address information increases. Whilst these costs amount to millions of dollars each year for Australians, it has been during recent emergency services and disaster management situations, such as the 2011 Queensland and Victoria floods, that the requirements for reliable address information has been fully recognised.
“We’ve long understood the importance of supporting Location Intelligence initiatives of Government such as NAMF,” said Sean Richards, Director of Product Management at Pitney Bowes Business Insight. “Many of our clients in emergency services and government rely heavily on our ability to provide access to the most up-to-date and accurate data as possible. We have actively participated in the NAMF project, including its inception. Getting our address validation and geocoding technology NAMF-certified was just another step in that process.”
Dan Paull, Chief Executive Officer of PSMA Australia agrees. “Pitney Bowes Business Insight’s initiative to be the first to gain NAMF certification is an essential enabler for government and businesses in Australia to better access a single point of truth for digital address information,” said Paull.
What this means in practice, is that adopters of the framework will now be given much greater confidence in the accuracy of a geocoded or validated address when utilising NAMF-certified solutions provided by Pitney Bowes Business Insight. In addition, they will also have the ability to provide advice on any perceived inconsistencies through a nationally agreed feedback mechanism administered by PSMA Australia.
With compliance to the NAMF being ratified by all states and territories through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), there has now also been interest from federal government bodies that recognise the importance of digital address management.
