NAVTEQ Selected by United States Postal Service (USPS) for Geospatial Applications

NAVTEQ(R) Map Data to be used for eFMS (Electronic Facilities Management System)

CHICAGO, Jan. 12 — (PRNewswire) — NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, announced today that the United States Postal Service has selected NAVTEQ map data for use within the geospatial component of its eFMS (Electronic Facilities Management System) application.

The eFMS uses spatial analysis tools to support a number of critical USPS initiatives, including efficiently using the space within USPS's more than 35,000 facilities nationwide and building spatial tools to help manage leases on over 25,000 facilities. NAVTEQ map data is used in the eFMS to assess the impact of delivery zone adjustments and reduce costs as facilities are reconfigured.

Johnston McLamb, an IT consulting firm specializing in visualization and geospatial business intelligence, originally developed the eFMS application.  Johnston McLamb has worked closely with USPS for several years to support and enhance eFMS, including developing spatial analysis tools that use NAVTEQ map data.

"Johnston McLamb is very pleased to have a central role in helping USPS achieve one of its highest profile initiatives," said Wendy Henry, vice president and chief operating officer, Johnston McLamb. "The richness of the NAVTEQ map data enables us to create valuable spatial applications for USPS that live up to the high standards of quality that companies have come to expect from us."

NAVTEQ map data includes geospatial information such as roads, cities, political boundaries, physical features, places, railroads, census boundaries, parks, schools, fire departments, police departments, and hospitals and many other geospatial vector data layers of important value to the USPS geospatial program.

"We are excited to win this opportunity to support the U.S. Postal Service with their mission critical geospatial needs," says Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. "This award by USPS recognizes NAVTEQ's ability to provide the most accurate, complete and comprehensive map coverage available in the industry and demonstrates yet another way that high quality maps can be used to improve government operations."
