Magellan® Professional Introduces the ProFlex™ 500 Base Station for Real-time Network Applications

A cost-effective GNSS base station solution for precise RTK surveying and high-accuracy GIS data collection

Nantes, France, September 21, 2009 – Magellan Professional today announced the ProFlex 500 base station, a new GNSS solution with enhanced multi-data streaming that offers easy access to RTK corrections for real-time centimeter-accurate land survey and high-accuracy GIS applications. With built-in Ethernet capability and complete embedded Web server, for full control and monitoring, the ProFlex 500 base station provides survey and GIS professionals an efficient and cost-effective alternative to public or private network corrections.

In the absence of a local real-time network, ProFlex 500 Internet connectivity provides NTRIP and Direct IP capabilities to enable users to build their own DGPS and/or RTK corrections server. Without additional software or equipment, the ProFlex 500 easily and efficiently broadcasts corrections to multiple rovers in the field.

Flexible and Efficient
The ProFlex 500 base station is a highly versatile and scalable product that can be upgraded from a basic L1 GPS-only to an L1/L2, and up to GPS/GLONASS configuration. Each ProFlex 500 base station can also be set up as a rover. It’s fully compatible with the Magellan Professional ProMark™ and MobileMapper™ receivers for complete cost-effective survey and mapping RTK solutions. It supports a wide range of Magellan and third party field and office software, and is compatible with all standard data formats (RTCM, CMR/CMR+, LRK, etc.)

High Performance and Rugged
The heart of the ProFlex 500 is a 75-channel GNSS board that tracks dual-frequency GPS and GLONASS signals as well as SBAS ranging signals, all of which are optimally processed by the patented BLADE™ technology for high-performance RTK accuracy and operational productivity. It contains completely integrated GSM, UHF and Bluetooth for wireless communications as well as Ethernet, RS-232/422 and USB connections. Rugged and IP67 rated, the receiver is made to withstand harsh environments. Its high-impact resistant molded aluminum housing protects it in virtually all conditions.

Outstanding GNSS performance, combined with flexibility and scalability, makes the ProFlex 500 base station a cost-effective solution for current and future positioning needs.

BLADE Technology Inside
The ProFlex 500 uses Magellan Professional’s BLADE Technology, which introduces a unique patented way to use multiple GNSS constellations for high-accuracy positioning. BLADE also accounts for the GLONASS receiver biases in reference stations, allowing the user to optimally use the GLONASS signals from any manufacturer’s receiver. BLADE even allows the receiver to benefit from GLONASS satellites in the absence of GLONASS correction data by properly weighting the uncorrected measurements.
