Surveylab Launches ike1000, Latest Evolution of Pioneering ikeGPS Product Line

Wellington, New Zealand and McLean, VA, — July 07, 2009 — Surveylab today announced the launch of its new ike1000™ series of remote positioning GPS handhelds. It combines a GPS, 3D compass, digital camera and laser rangefinder to provide the user with an all-in-one GPS data capture solution. The ike1000 improves on the earlier ikeGPS™ series with all new instruments, a faster and more rugged computer, and a display more easily read in bright sunlight.

The user points the ike1000 at a remote target up to a kilometer away, presses a button, and captures the target’s position as a GPS coordinate plus takes a photo of the target. The ike1000 produces a verifiable, geo-tagged digital image of each target with crosshairs and other relevant data superimposed on the image to precisely record which target was captured.

Users such as the US military, oil & gas industry, utilities, forestry, land surveyors and public works agencies have been using ikeGPS for years in situations where targets are difficult to reach or safety is a concern. For example, Surveylab’s ikeGPS technology is currently being used to support US military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Surveylab also recently assisted engineers of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) when ikeGPS technology was needed following the earthquake in Abruzzo, Italy.

“The new ike1000 series is faster, longer-range, tougher, smaller, lighter and more accurate than anything else in its market segment,” said Leon Toorenburg, Surveylab CEO. “It offers users a more powerful solution for capturing remote positional data in hostile or rugged conditions. From mapping remote assets to improving the safety of war-torn areas, the improved performance and usability of ike1000 will be a benefit to all users”

The ike1000 series, including the ike100 and ike300, will be available in September 2009 for $4,895 (depending upon options and accessories).
