GigOptix Announces Industry's Smallest and Lowest Power EA Driver

PALO ALTO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—September 17, 2008— GigOptix, the leading provider of electronic engines for the optically connected digital world today announced the release of the GX6127. This exceptional EA driver not only consumes 20% less power than the industrys current lowest power solution but also occupies nearly 50% less board space compared to the competing solution.

The combination of lower power and smaller form factor enables not only higher port densities for system manufactures but also lower manufacturing cost and MSA power ratings for transceiver manufacturers; all while providing the highest levels of performance in the industry.

Power consumption, heat management and form factor size are the critical parameters in transceiver design for lightwave communication system. The GX6127 solves these concerns by typically consuming 350mW while driving 2.3Vpp output voltage single ended. This low power consumption translates into reduced heat dissipation and power supply requirements for transceiver manufacturers. The GX6127 operates from a single +3.3-VDC bias supply and is designed using proprietary GigOptix design techniques to fit within a 3x3mm QFN package making it the smallest and lowest power EA driver on the market.

The GX6127 is compatible with all popular optical transceiver MSAs, including 300pin, XENPAK, XFP, XPAK, and X2. Other key features of the ICs include: adjustable output voltage from 1 to 2.5Vpp; AC-coupled input and output ports; typical rise and fall times (20% to 80%) of 28 ps; and crossing-point control of 35% to 80%.

Engineering samples of the GX6127 are available today, along with an evaluation board that allows the GX6127 to be easily evaluated with EA modulators.
