AMCC Announces QT2025 Family Successfully Operates in SFP+ and 10GBASE-KR Applications

LAS VEGAS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 28, 2008— Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ: AMCC), a global leader in optical transport, embedded Power Architecture processing, and storage solutions today announced successful interoperability testing of the QT2025 physical layer (PHY) IC family at the University of New Hampshires Interoperability Lab (UNH-IOL). The QT2025-1 PHY passed the interoperability testing with all 10GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-LR SFP+ optical modules. The QT2025 PHY passed its testing for 10GBASE-KR backplane applications. The two separate test events were organized by the Ethernet Alliance® SFP+/EDC Subcommittee and the Backplane Ethernet Subcommittee at UNH-IOL.

AMCC will demonstrate QT2025 and QT2025-1 Tuesday through Thursday in conjunction with the Ethernet Alliance in booth #1567 at the Interop conference.

The SFP+ interoperability tests covered both the transmitter and receiver performance of the QT2025-1 interfacing to both 10GBASE-SR and -LR SFP+ modules from seven different module vendors. The QT2025-1 exceeded the transmit mask requirements with all the SR/LR modules and operated with no errors for the duration of the test with all of the receiving modules.

"I am pleased with the success AMCC has shown in the UNH-IOL 10Gbps SFP+ PHY testing," said Marco Mazzini of Cisco and the Technical Champion of the Ethernet Alliance SFP+/EDC Subcommittee. "The results from the interoperability event show viability of next generation high density 10 Gigabit Ethernet equipment."

Testing for IEEE 802.3ap was conducted at UNH-IOL during a recent Plug-Fest organized by the Ethernet Alliance Backplane Ethernet Subcommittee. The QT2025 successfully passed the interoperability testing of 10GBASE-KR backplane interfaces. Testing of the QT2025s 1000BASE-KX and auto-negotiation features are planned for a future event.

The successful interoperability testing of AMCC's QT2025 and QT20215-1 is another milestone in preparing silicon for the 10GBASE-KR and SFP+ markets, said Jag Bolaria, Senior Analyst at the Linley Group. Both of these markets promise volume growth in the coming year and AMCC is well-positioned to take advantage of that growth with its 10Gbps Ethernet PHY family.

About the QT2025 family

The QT2025 and the QT2025-1 integrate 10 Gbps serial-to-XAUI Ethernet processing with high-performance electronic dispersion compensation (EDC). The QT2025-1 is used in 1 and 10 Gbps Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications based on X2, XENPAK and SFP+ optical transceiver modules or direct attach copper cables. The QT2025 is used in 1 and 10 Gbps backplane Ethernet applications and is equipped with auto-negotiation and 10GBASE-KR forward error correction (FEC).
