Cavium Networks' New OCTEON(TM) Plus CN58XX Low-Power Series Breaks the 1 Watt per Core Barrier

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 16, 2007 -- Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage and security applications, today announced the newest addition to the OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64® Processor family: The OCTEON Plus CN58XX Low-Power (LP) 4-core to 16-core processor family incorporates innovative power management techniques and process optimizations to deliver the power of 16x MIPS64 cores while consuming less than 1 Watt per core. These new processors provide market-leading performance for power and space constrained applications for wired and wireless service provider, access, enterprise and data-center markets. Cavium Networks will be demonstrating the OCTEON Plus CN58XX LP processor family on Oct. 18th at the ATCA Summit, being held in Santa Clara, Calif.

OCTEON™ Plus CN58XX LP Processor Family

The OCTEON Plus CN58XX LP Processor family provides all the performance and features of the existing CN58XX Networks Services Processor line while slashing the power consumption. The product family consists of 6 different software-compatible parts combining 4 to 16x cnMIPS™ Plus cores at up to 600MHz, 2MB of L2 cache, advanced hardware acceleration for packet processing, QoS, TCP, compression decompression, security, and pattern matching along with integrated 10G and 1G networking interfaces in a tightly integrated SOC. OCTEON Plus CN58XX LP processors are fully socket and feature compatible with existing CN38XX and CN58XX family of processors. A variety of 4, 8, 12, and 16-core LP versions are available with under 16W maximum core power consumption, making it ideal for multi-gigabit to 10-gigabit low-power designs. The OCTEON Plus CN58XX LP processors are well suited for constrained form factors applications, such as 3G/4G and WiMAX infrastructure equipment, chassis-based routers and switches and data-center switches and appliances.

"The next generation of converged wired and wireless infrastructure equipment requires high compute performance along with advanced features to support packet processing, layer 4 to layer 7data processing with integrated security and subscriber management services within strict power budgets," said Aileen A. Arcilla -- IDC Senior Analyst Semiconductors: Networking, Broadband and Storage. "Processor vendors that deliver leading performance and performance/watt characteristics, general purpose software programmability and targeted application acceleration are well positioned to capture major designs for next generation networking and wireless equipment."

"OCTEON Plus CN58XX processors have already demonstrated leading performance per watt along with integration of advanced application hardware acceleration," said YJ Kim, director of OCTEON marketing at Cavium Networks. "Today, we're expanding our lead in low-power, service rich and high performance processor products to enable stringent, power constrained designs. Through the hardware and software compatible OCTEON and OCTEON LP product line, our customers can increase system performance and reduce power consumption to address newer markets and applications."

Product Family, Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the OCTEON CN58XX LP family is available upon request. OCTEON CN58XX LP family processors, software development kit and evaluation boards will be available in November 2007.
