Mentor and Ciranova collaborated to validate that both of Ciranova's PCell products work transparently with Calibre nmDRC:
-- PCell Xtreme(TM) supports legacy PCells and enables Calibre nmDRC to read OpenAccess databases containing PCells written in proprietary languages from any vendor; and
-- PyCell Studio(TM) produces universal OpenAccess PCells, called PyCells(TM), which Calibre nmDRC can read directly in OpenAccess databases.

Companies adopting the OpenAccess design database list electronic design automation (EDA) tool interoperability as one of the key benefits they want to achieve. The collaboration between Mentor and Ciranova ensures that Calibre nmDRC users are able to open any OpenAccess database directly, no matter what kind of PCells may have been used to create that database. In addition, the direct read function in Calibre nmDRC eliminates the GDS stream out. The database interface automates layer mapping, back annotates Design for Manufacturability (DFM) optimizations into the design database, and doesn't require significant disk space for holding the GDSII data for every iteration. No additional layout tool is required for direct read.
Ciranova's PCell Xtreme product is ideal for helping migrate designs that contain legacy PCells written with proprietary languages without first streaming out to GDSII. Ciranova and Mentor verified that Calibre nmDRC can read an OpenAccess database containing Python-based PyCells created by Ciranova's PyCell Studio. This combination gives designers unprecedented options for creating new or re-using existing PCells.
