Sagem Defense Securite Integrate Celoxica ESL and MVI IP Into Product Design Flows

OXFORDSHIRE, England—(BUSINESS WIRE)—December 4, 2006— Celoxica (LSE: CXA) today announced the deployment of its multimedia, video and imaging (MVI) intellectual property (IP) solutions by Sagem Defense Securite (Sagem-DS), a part of the SAFRAN Group of high-technology companies and leading provider of defense and security electronics. Celoxica technology was used by hardware and software teams and the product design was targeted at a Cyclone II/ Nios II FPGA based system-on-programmable-chip (SOPC) from Altera Corporation.

Sagem-DS identified Celoxica as the only ESL provider delivering the global coverage, the mix of tools and IP and the design flow compatible with their development methodologies. The design teams used Celoxica technology to accelerate the development and deployment of ground defense systems, streamline design flows and integrate off-the-shelf programmable MVI IP with proprietary, in-house IP. The end product was a configurable and upgradeable platform for battlefield optronics with real-time performance, compact form factor and low power consumption.

"We have led the development of defense optronics for more than 30 years through a continual program of research and innovation," said a spokesperson for Sagem Defense Securite. "Our investment in Celoxica's system level design technology is a part of that on-going process and has delivered benefits in terms of reduced design times and increased product design flexibility."

Sagem-DS engineers made extensive use of Celoxica's PixelStreams product, an imaging framework and library of source level MVI IP that applies high-level language design and synthesis techniques to substantially reduce development time. The parameterizable nature of PixelStreams IP enabled Sagem-DS to quickly optimize and configure the IP to their specific product requirements. Chip implementation was enabled by connecting PixelStreams to Celoxica's DK Design Suite and SOPC Builder tool from Altera. The end product is a completely reprogrammable and upgradeable optronics solution that also provides a common platform for future derivative products.

"For such a demanding product specification the combination of Celoxica technology and MVI IP targeting FPGA was the optimal choice. Sagem-DS engineers have brought together off-the-shelf solutions with their own expertise and know-how to create a truly exceptional product," said Edouard Vincent, engineering manager for Celoxica.
