u-Nav Announces RendevU(TM), a True Monolithic GPS Single-Die Receiver

IRVINE, Calif., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- u-Nav Microelectronics, developer of the world's smallest and lowest power Global Positioning System (GPS) integrated circuits (ICs), announced the availability of the lowest power monolithic GPS single-die receiver on the market today. RendevU(TM) is a complete GPS receiver that combines the .18u CMOS uN3010 single-die with u-Nav's ORION open architecture software platform.

"GPS semiconductor customers are bombarded weekly with claims of smallest and lowest power," according to Russ Garcia, u-Nav President and CEO. "We are verifying performance on production quality silicon. Combining the uN3010 with the flexibility of our ORION(TM) software allows our customers developing mobile battery operated devices the ability to differentiate their product quickly without sacrificing performance, battery life or cost."

At less than 60 mW acquisition power and 50 mW tracking power, this versatile GPS navigation solution supports autonomous operation and multiple assisted operating modes, including 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IS-801 as well as providing hosted and server based applications solutions. The uN3010 is 43% smaller than all other available GPS solutions, the total size is 28 sq mm making it ideal for all small footprint applications.

In addition, the uN3010 enables simultaneous operation technology. This technology, already verified in a cellular handset, provides high-sensitivity, indoor A-GPS acquisition during full-power cellular voice or data transmission. This allows for GPS positioning without interruption of a cellular call.

u-Nav offers a wide variety of support tools including Evaluation Kits (EVK), reference designs, Gerber files, schematics and a powerful Software Development Kit ( SDK). The SDK provides developers the freedom to customize and add functional software blocks to meet application specific requirements and also provides a complete set of performance analysis tools.

Samples of the uN3010 single-die GPS receiver are available in April 2006.
