Pixim's Orca Chipset Technology Drives Momentum in TCP/IP Surveillance Camera Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Feb 21, 2006 -- Pixim, Incorporated announced that its patented Digital Pixel System® (DPS) technology has been integrated into new TCP/IP surveillance cameras from Dallmeier electronic, Verint Systems, and Product Acceleration Inc. While each camera offers unique features and functions, all have incorporated Pixim's Orca chipset to achieve superior picture quality in challenging lighting situations that enables video analytics and biometrics algorithms to work better.

"The IP surveillance camera market is positioned for dramatic growth over the next five years. Pixim's chipset technology is poised to take advantage of this trend by providing key technology to an industry that depends on the underlying semiconductor markets," states Mark Kirstein, iSuppli's Vice President of Multimedia Content and Services and author of the recent industry report, Video Surveillance: Migrating to IP Cameras and Networked Systems. "Pixim's ability to perform in low-light conditions and at high resolution gives them unique positioning among CMOS image sensor competitors targeting video surveillance."

Pixim chipsets combine impressive and powerful features, that include excellent low light performance (0.5 lux in color), wide dynamic range (120dB max), a progressive scan imager with global shutter that removes motion artifacts, remote control port, and high Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at high temperature.

Pixim's line of DPS chipsets is compact, easy to configure and delivers excellent image quality in both normal and wide dynamic range (WDR) scenes in any lighting conditions, 24/7. Pixim's image consistency and accuracy overcomes typical impediments of existing analog CCD technologies to provide positive subject identification caused by variable lighting and limited color accuracy. The DPS image sensor converts light to a digital signal at each pixel, enabling each pixel to have independent, optimized exposure times to deliver the highest image quality and color accuracy.

Dallmeier electronic, a leader in networked video surveillance, won "Best Hardware Product" in this year's IIPSEC 2006 Security Innovation Awards, for their Cam_inNET®. DF3000IP-DN TCP/IP high-resolution color surveillance camera based on Pixim's Orca chipset.

"Dallmeier's DF3000IP-DN camera is setting new standards for IP cameras in security applications," explains Kai Leuze, product manager. "Our innovative sensor concept is based on the most up-to-date progressive scan Orca chipset from Pixim, offering previously unseen picture quality in all conceivable lighting conditions with ultra high dynamic range and resolution, and is coupled with software developed especially for security applications. With the Pixim chipset, our DF3000IP-DN camera produces true-color, detailed pictures without any blooming or smearing."

Verint has added the Nextiva S2600e professional IP camera to their line of Nextiva Actionable Intelligence Solutions. The camera features Pixim's Orca chipset for crisp images in virtually any lighting situation.

"Verint's sophisticated analytics capabilities take full advantage of the high quality digital video stream captured by Pixim's Orca chipset," comments Jean-Paul Saindon, President of Product House. "Pixim's advanced sensor solution provides better data to allow Verint's Nextiva software algorithms to produce more reliable and accurate actionable intelligence."

Product Acceleration, Inc, recently introduced the Cyclops Camera Platform, a competitively priced, compact, Pixim DPS-enabled TCP/IP camera, developed in partnership with Pixim.

"When we saw the Orca chipset performance, its capacity for dramatic market impact was obvious. We moved rapidly to capitalize on this advanced technology given the mass movement toward TCP/IP cameras in surveillance applications." explains Manu Pillai, Product Acceleration, Inc. CEO. "Our Cyclops Camera Platform has reduced entry level costs to IP markets, and our design is licensable by qualified OEM customers for volume shipments beginning Q2 2006."

IP video surveillance systems enable broader system-level integration with industry specific solutions for public safety, traffic control, industrial, retail, education, financial, and consumer applications.

"It is gratifying to see widespread recognition and adoption of Pixim's Orca chipset at the leading edge of TCP/IP based surveillance systems," said Joe Montalbo, president and CEO of Pixim. "Certainty in subject and object identification has never been more important. Pixim's technology brings critical capabilities for data acquisition, analytics and biometrics that promise to add new dimensions to surveillance applications across the industry."

Customers shipping Pixim chipsets in their security camera products include: Baxall, Dallmeier electronic, EverFocus, Tyco Fire & Security, GE Security, General Solutions, Honeywell, Ikegami, Pelco, Product Acceleration, Sunell, JVC, ChipER, Eagle Technology, Videor Technical, Smartvue, Verint, and Electronics Line USA.
