MagnaChip Semiconductor Introduces New Line of Microcontrollers

SEOUL, South Korea, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MagnaChip Semiconductor today announced the launch of its newest microcontroller (MCU) line. These MCUs have the capacity range of 4K, 16K, 24K and 48K flash memory and will be ready for mass production in early July 2005.

The MagnaChip 8 bit flash MCU line will be used in major applications for white goods, such as air conditioners, washing machines and microwave ovens. This product kit supports a wide range of package types from 16 pin to 64 pin, allowing MagnaChip to effectively respond to diverse customer requirements. This line offers embedded flash memory allowing for ease of development. Additionally, these products all offer In System Programming (ISP) through Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitters (UART), and support 10bit ADC.

Following are some specific features of the new line:
-- The 4K flash product offers Internal Resistor Capacitance (IRC), which
eliminates the need to use an external resistor or capacitor, and has
Power On Reset (POR) embedded, both of which make this product highly
cost efficient for MagnaChip's customers. Further, since UART is
embedded in this product it can support the ISP of some high-end
     products.
-- The 16K offering is a 32 pin product and can utilize up to 30 I/Os.
-- The 24K and 48K products can support up to 2 UARTs and provide
networking capability with other devices. The 24K and 48K products can
     also facilitate home networking capabilities.

Channy Lee, Executive Vice President of Products of MagnaChip Semiconductor, commented, "MagnaChip's new product kit supports a wide range of package types, which respond to our diverse customer requirements. The new line will allow our customers to produce newer, smarter appliances. Further, we are excited that these products will offer cost effective production technologies that actually shorten development time."
