RIZE Achieves Another 3D Printing Materials First with UL’s GREENGUARD Certification for RIZIUM™ Material, Inks and XRIZE

In another milestone of the RIZIUM Alliance, RIZE introduces the first full color composite printer, material and inks that are certified for low chemical emissions

CONCORD, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 30, 2020RIZE, Inc., a next-generation additive manufacturing company bringing industrial 3D printing to all users and a World Economic Forum (WEF) 2020 Technology Pioneer, announced that its XRIZE full-color industrial 3D printer, its RIZIUM™ ST 3D printing filament material and RIZIUM inks have received GREENGUARD Certification. This certification is based on the ANSI/CAN/UL 2904, “Standard Method for Testing and Assessing Particle and Chemical Emissions from 3D Printers.”

The XRIZE becomes the first full color, composite 3D printer to be certified by UL for low emissions and safe usage in any market space – while RIZE’s RIZIUM ST composite and its RIZIUM inks also become the first 3D printing material and ink to be GREENGUARD certified. XRIZE’s hybrid materials system combines a filament-based extrusion process with a functional ink-based jetting process to create 3D printed composite parts in full color. RIZE filaments are based on unique cyclic olefin-based materials, do not decompose at high temperatures, and have extremely low moisture absorption.

The XRIZE is RIZE’s second GREENGUARD certified printer, following its RIZE One™ which received the certification in September 2019. By pursuing GREENGUARD Certification, RIZE demonstrates its dedication to developing safer 3D printing processes and materials since the company’s inception in 2014, and affirms that the products emit low levels of chemicals into indoor air during use and contribute to safer, healthier indoor air.

A pioneering research study by Chemical Insights, a Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories, and Georgia Institute of Technology showed that many desktop 3D printers release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ultrafine particles (UFPs) into the air that are known health hazards. The study detailed how these emissions are compromising health and indoor air quality for millions of students, patients, and employees who work near 3D printers in schools, hospitals, offices, and factories. As a result, ANSI/CAN/UL 2904, “Standard Method for Testing and Assessing Particle and Chemical Emissions for 3D Printers" was developed to allow manufacturers to demonstrate that 3D printers can be used without negatively impacting indoor air quality.

Products that are GREENGUARD Certified are scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure.

“GREENGUARD Certification is rigorous for a reason – because indoor 3D printing use has long been an industry issue. As the first 3D printer, material and ink to earn GREENGUARD Certification, RIZE demonstrates its leadership and commitment to providing healthier indoor environments. We congratulate them on yet another sustainability and safety accomplishment,” said Alberto Uggetti, vice president and general manager for UL’s environment and sustainability division.

“GREENGUARD Certification is the gold standard for 3D printing health and safety, and we’re delighted that RIZE’s materials-first approach to 3D printing is getting recognized by scientific leaders as well as major manufacturers," said Andy Kalambi, CEO of RIZE. “Our RIZIUM Alliance and continued commitment to materials innovation is enabling manufacturers, product designers and any 3D printing user to create adaptive workflows that drive safer, sustainable 3D printing and propel the next generation of advanced manufacturing.”

About RIZE

RIZE Inc. is a Boston, USA-based next-generation additive manufacturing company focused on helping customers drive sustainable and inclusive innovation. Prestigious organizations such as NASA, PSMI, Wichita State University, US Army and Festo have chosen RIZE solutions for supporting their additive manufacturing needs.

RIZE's 3D Printing digital materials technology leverages two platforms – Augmented Polymer Deposition (APD) and the RIZIUM Material. APD is the next generation of FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) technology combining filament based extrusion with functional ink based material jetting to address three industry challenges – safety, ease of use and security of intellectual property. The RIZIUM Material Platform consists of RIZIUM engineered polymers and RIZIUM functional inks.

Based on Augmented Polymer Deposition, RIZE’s first product, RIZE™ ONE, released in 2017, has become the first 3D printer in the industry to be awarded the prestigious UL GREENGUARD Certification for safety and low emissions. RIZE’s second product, XRIZE, also GREENGUARD certified, has become the first mainstream industrial full color and composite 3D Printer. RIZE also offers the RIZE 2XC desktop composite 3D printer, shipping on August 1, and is in beta testing with the RIZE 7XC, the world’s first sustainable large-format industrial 3D printer.

The RIZIUM Material portfolio includes RIZIUM One, the world’s first and only 3D printing material to be certified for both USP Class VI (biocompatibility) and GREENGUARD (low emissions); RIZIUM Carbon, the world’s first zero VOC carbon composite material; RIZIUM ST, for color parts; RIZIUM CMYK Inks, for full color applications; RIZIUM Release Ink; and the newly introduced RIZIUM Release engineering polymer.

RIZE has won numerous awards and accolades, including being the only 3D printing firm to be named as one of the World Economic Forum 2020 Technology Pioneers, an IDC Innovator in Plastic-Based 3D Printing, and receiving a Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award for Best Practices for Zero-Emissions Polymer Additive Manufacturing.
