ANADIGICS Introduces Industry's Most Highly Integrated Dual-Band WLAN Power Amplifier

New Dual-Band AWL6950 InGaP HBT PA Leads the Industry in Performance and Ruggedness

WARREN, N.J., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANADIGICS, Inc. , a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, today announced the introduction of the AWL6950 dual-band 4 mm by 4 mm indium gallium phosphide heterojunction bipolar transistor (InGaP HBT) power amplifier (PA). This PA supports the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which allows wireless local area network (WLAN) equipment manufacturers to use a single PA for 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11a/b, and 802.11a/b/g applications. The small footprint AWL6950 is the industry's most highly integrated dual-band PA, requiring only two external capacitors, which significantly reduces printed circuit board (PCB) space requirements.

"The AWL6950 offers the industry's best dual-band PA performance and reliability, while providing the highest level of integration to reduce PCB space and external component costs," said Ron Michels, Vice President of Broadband Products at ANADIGICS, Inc. "The introduction of this PA positions ANADIGICS for further success in the rapidly growing 802.11a/b/g market. The 802.11a/b/g standard offers the end user maximum network versatility and represents the implementation of choice for new platform designs. We continue to strengthen our leadership position in the HBT WLAN PA market by leveraging our innovative technology and close alignment with premier reference design companies to develop best-of-breed, differentiated solutions."

The AWL6950 provides a low error vector magnitude (EVM) of 3.5% at 20 dBm in the 2.4 GHz band and 19 dBm in the 5 GHz band. The PA exhibits 31.5 dB of linear power gain at 2.4 GHz and 30 dB of linear power gain at 5 GHz. The AWL6950 represents superior ruggedness by exhibiting consistent gain and linearity performance across a wide range of temperatures and voltages. This PA offers best-in-class electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of greater than 1 KV ensuring robustness in the world's toughest manufacturing environments.

Unlike most other WLAN PAs, the AWL6950 has an integrated CMOS-voltage compatible on/off circuit for each band of operation eliminating the need for any additional on/off circuitry around the device. The PA also integrates temperature- and voltage-compensated output power detectors in the 4 mm by 4 mm package making it the industry's smallest dual-band WLAN PA solution. The compact overall size enables use in applications of the smallest form factor including mini-PCI express, PDAs, and cellular handsets. The AWL6950 complies with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standard.

The AWL6950 is priced at $2.00 each in quantities of 100,000 units. Samples are available.
