First Crime Awareness App Launches in NYC Offering Real-Time Notifications and Live Broadcasting of Incidents

New Technology Opens Live Access to 911 Reported Crimes

NEW YORK — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 26, 2016 — Today, Vigilante launches in New York City as the first crime awareness app combining real-time alerts and live broadcasting. Vigilante has developed technology that opens up the existing 911 system, unlocking access to reported crimes and sending alerts to nearby users.

Launching exclusively in New York, Vigilante is currently available on iOS and free to download. The new app provides unlimited access to information on reported crimes in all five boroughs and gives users the opportunity to capture and share powerful live video of incidents occurring around them. Vigilante is geo-restricted and will only operate in cities where available.

The Vigilante app features:

In New York City, thousands of incidents are reported each day. Recent statistics indicate that violent crime is on the rise in the U.S, with homicide on a steady increase in major cities.

CEO and Founder Andrew Frame states, “We are facing a critical moment in our nation’s history. By using technology to access and open the 911 system, we can create transparency, eliminate bias, and unleash the most powerful, but yet untapped force in the fight against crime — citizens themselves.”

Vigilante is backed by a series of technology venture investors including FF Angel, the early stage investment vehicle of Founders Fund, a San Francisco-based firm that has invested in companies including Airbnb, Facebook, SpaceX, and Palantir.

Vigilante is expected to launch in additional U.S cities in 2017.
