Legend VR Creates Virtual Reality Episodes for Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders; Expands Dedicated Virtual Reality and VFX Divisions

VR Episodes will debut at Comic-Con 2016; Company Announces Promotion of Will Maurer to Vice President of Business Development for VR and VFX

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 21, 2016 — In a ramp-up to Comic-Con International 2016, industry-leading virtual reality company Legend VR has joined forces with Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment to create virtual reality episodes for the new adult animated series Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders – and has promoted the series’ VR producer Will Maurer to Vice President of Business Development for its standalone VR and VFX divisions.

Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders is co-produced by global brand management company Genius Brands International and written by Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicienza based on a concept by Lee, a 75-year veteran of the film industry who will edit and voice himself as one of the show’s main characters.

“I can’t wait for everyone to see what the wizards at Legend 3D created for our new series Cosmic Crusaders!” Lee said. “Turning me into virtual reality, wow, what will they think of next? This is truly a unique experience for both me and comic book fans. You won’t want to miss this!”

The series is the first show to debut on THR.com, the website of The Hollywood Reporter, and the first four episodes will air exclusively on THR.com leading up to Comic-Con International 2016 in San Diego this week. The VR episodes will premiere beginning today on the Hindsight VR app, available in the Google & iOS app stores, and VR demos will be available to convention attendees at Legend’s booth.

“The voracious consumer appetite for good VR content, coupled with the excitement behind Stan Lee’s first VR experience, has made this one of the most anticipated experiences of the year,” said Maurer, who created the virtual reality experience for Cosmic Crusaders.

Maurer joined the Legend VR team in February as Senior VR and VFX Producer. He previously worked at Deluxe, where he cut his teeth converting 2D theatrical content into stereoscopic 3D imagery on such projects as San Andreas, Point Break, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Mad Max: Fury Road.

His promotion to Vice President of Business Development for VR and VFX underscores the company’s commitment to expanding Legend VR, its full-scale, freestanding virtual reality division that builds tools designed to help studios, documentary filmmakers, retailers, and brands create high-performance interactive content. In his new role, Maurer will help build and grow Legend’s robust, standalone VR and VFX service offerings.

Legend VR offers full-scale virtual reality creative, production, and post-production solutions – from concept to final color – for all types of 360-degree and VR content. Its extensive staff works closely with creative agencies and directors to develop and storyboard both live action and CG content and with producers, creative directors, production designers and DPs on-set to capture the most effective images for both 2D and 3D 360-degree content.

The company’s cutting-edge work is helping define and design the new narrative of 360-degree storytelling and has played an integral role in some of the most buzzworthy VR content of late for clients like Lionsgate, Warner Brothers, Apple Music, Annapurna Pictures, Hulu, and Tidal. Other recent projects include The Click Effect, a film that premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival for which Legend performed stitching, VFX, and 3D functions, and “Take Flight,” from The New York Times’ Great Performers series for which Legend completed CG/VFX work, stereo conversion, on-set capture of talent, color correction, and final 360-degree rendering.

“At Legend VR, we are keenly aware that virtual reality is transforming the way audiences consume and enjoy media,” Maurer said. “We offer a truly soup-to-nuts solution for clients looking to delve into – or solidify – their position in the virtual reality marketplace, and working with the incredible and groundbreaking Stan Lee on this project has been an unparalleled experience for our team. We’re thrilled to work with Stan to bring his vision for Cosmic Crusaders to life in virtual reality.”
