Sequence Design Appoints Jerry Frenkil Chief Technology Officer

SANTA CLARA, California - August 2, 2004 - Sequence Design announced that Jerry Frenkil has been promoted to chief technology officer. Most recently, Frenkil served as Sequence's vice president of advanced development. In his new role, he will develop and implement technology strategies to facilitate Sequence's continued growth and expansion.

"Mr. Frenkil is one of the leading experts on low power design. He was among the very first to recognize power consumption as a design challenge and to build low power design solutions. His knowledge of IC design is extremely broad and he has been an innovator in numerous areas. With his impressive track record, we are confident that he will continue to build Sequence's position as a leading provider of power and SI solutions for nanometer design," said Vic Kulkarni, president and CEO, Sequence Design.

Mr. Frenkil's tenure with Sequence began when the company merged with Sente in 2000. He was one of the founders of Sente, the pioneer in low-power design tools. He has published papers on IC and Low Power Design, and holds several patents on circuit design and design automation. Mr. Frenkil recently authored a chapter in Low-Power Electronics Design, edited by Christian Piguet, to be published in September 2004 by CRC Press.

Jerry Frenkil has over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor and EDA industries. While at Sente Mr. Frenkil was the vice president of low power design where he led the services and applications activities. Prior to co-founding Sente, Mr. Frenkil was an independent consultant focused on IC design. He also held management positions at VLSI Technology and Mostek. Mr. Frenkil holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas.

"We are still in the nascent stages of the power constrained era, and the constraints will only become more severe going forward, creating both new risks and opportunities. The winners in this era will be those enterprises that aggressively embrace power efficient methodologies in all aspects of design. My key challenge going forward will be to position Sequence to enable power efficient design by developing advanced tools and technologies with our customers and partners," said Jerry Frenkil.

Mr. Frenkil and Vic Kulkarni have been the chief strategists and visionaries in developing the NanoCool™ low-power, low-voltage design flow, often referred to now in the industry as the power integrity flow.

"Highly energy efficient integrated solutions are required in battery operated systems. Mr. Frenkil has an excellent track record and the technical vision to address the industry's needs for innovative low-power design methodologies," said Anantha P. Chandrakasan, professor of EECS at MIT.

"The semiconductor industry is facing a challenging time and radically new solutions are needed to address the growing power problem. Mr. Frenkil has been a leader in the low power design community and has contributed significantly in the past. His continued leadership will be essential," said Jan M. Rabaey, professor of EECS, University of California at Berkeley.

"Mr. Frenkil has been doing pioneering work in the areas of leakage power reduction and low-power design for a number of years," said Dennis Sylvester, professor of EECS, University of Michigan. "We are looking forward to his contributions to power gating technology."

Mr. Frenkil will be speaking on leakage power reduction with MTCMOS at the forthcoming low-power design seminar at San Jose on August 4, 2004.

Interested parties may contact Sequence's seminar hotline directly at (408) 961-2300, or via e-mail at Email Contact. The seminar series will kick off with the first seminar at Capital Club Athletics in downtown San Jose on Wednesday, August 04, 2004.The registrations for the first NanoCool Low-Power Seminar are open at http://www.sequencedesign.com/nanocool.html.

NanoCool Initiative
NanoCool is a joint venture among semiconductor designers, EDA tool vendors, IP companies and library suppliers, to provide a complete power integrity flow that includes concurrent power management, timing and signal-integrity capabilities to achieve rapid design closure at 130-nm and below.
