West Virginia Department of Transportation Implements Bentley’s SUPERLOAD for Oversized/Overweight Vehicle Permitting and Routing through Bentley MANAGEservices

Apr 14, 2015 -- West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) implemented Bentley’s SUPERLOAD, with the objective of increasing public safety by developing an automated process to properly check all oversized/overweight vehicle permit applications and of increasing the automated system issuance rate. To reduce WVDOT information technology overhead, the DOT chose to deploy SUPERLOAD as a Bentley MANAGEservices solution.

WVDOT Permit Administrator Todd Gibson explained, “SUPERLOAD automatically evaluates each permit request for bridge weight and route clearance approval, which allows the majority of our permits to be self-issued. As a result, we are able to meet industry needs by focusing our attention on the more complex and problematic permit requests while continuing to ensure safety and the long-term sustainability of the state's infrastructure.”

The key challenge of implementing the system was to deploy sophisticated technology to solve a complex business problem for a wide range of users, including the trucking industry and permit service organization that support the industry. The straightforward interface ensured end-user adoption, with more than 35,000 trucking companies currently using the WVDOT system.
