LIM College's Fashion: Now & Then Fashion Conference to include Preview of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Records

NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  LIM College, which is focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, will host Fashion: Now & Then: From Antiquity to Visionary, a conference in which participants will discuss the past, present, and future uses of global fashion information, October 23 through October 25, 2014 at the College's Maxwell Hall building and the LIM College Townhouse.

Attending this fourth annual pioneering global fashion information conference will be more than 200 participants from the fashion industry, libraries, archives, academic institutions, publishers, collectors, and museums throughout the world.

This year's conference will include a preview of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute records, which will be open for study in the spring of 2015, entitled From Parties, Pinafores and Pumps to PhDs: Mining the Costume Institute Records at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Archives for Future Study.

Opening keynote speaker Zach Davis, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Stylitics, the largest digital closet platform on the web, will discuss technology's impact on the fashion industry. Saturday's Ron Knoth Scholarship Lecturer, Steve Shapiro, President of Schwartz & Benjamin Footwear, will speak about how technology has influenced the accessories market.

Other highlights of this year's conference will be How About a Kiss?, which will examine advice literature for women and girls ranging from the early 20th century to the 1970's, from the Schlesinger Library Collections of the Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University, and Sheer Audacity - The Innovation of Pantyhose 1959-1969, which will explore how fashion, technology, and culture can merge to move society forward.

According to Nicole LaMoreaux, Reference & Instruction Librarian at LIM College and the conference organizer, "Since the LIM College Adrian G. Marcuse Library started Fashion: Now & Then in 2011, these conferences have become the authoritative source and go-to annual event for the fashion library and archivists profession. Given that LIM College boasts a unique, specialized collection focusing on the history of the fashion business, we feel that we are in a perfect position to bring together professionals from throughout the globe and lead the charge to move the collection of fashion information into the future."
