New Lucid HYDRA 200 Chip Integrated into Intel Platform

Core i5 and i7 / P55 Platform Delivers Groundbreaking Graphics Capabilities

SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 22, 2009 — Delivering the industry’s first truly dynamic and universal parallel graphics technology, LucidLogix Technologies (Lucid) has chosen Intel’s next-generation P55 platform to deliver the new HYDRA 200 real time distributed processing chip with GPU sharing capability to next generation motherboards.

Unveiled this week at IDF 2009 in Lucid booth 213, the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and matching P55 platform (codenamed Lynnfield) with HYDRA is the first to be graphics flexible, allowing for mixing and matching of GPUs in any configuration. It gives OEMS, consumer gamers and game developers the ultimate freedom to choose the computing components they want and need.

The HYDRA 200 real time distributed processing engine is Lucid’s second-generation parallel graphics processor that works with any GPU, CPU or chipset to provide scalable 3D graphics performance in a multi-GPU computing environment. The HYDRA 200 is faster, more flexible, smaller and more power-efficient than its predecessor silicon, the HYDRA 100.

“The graphics-vendor-agnostic Lucid HYDRA SoC allows consumers who are tired of complicated graphics solutions to transition towards ultra-responsive, ultra-realistic 3D graphics performance,” said Moshe Steiner, CEO of Lucid. “The Intel and HYDRA 200 solution levels the playing field for users and provides seamless compatibility and interoperability across components.”

"Intel’s newest high performance Core i7 and Core i5 processors coupled with the Intel P55 Chipset provide an ideal platform for Lucid to introduce its new GPU sharing technology,” said Zane Ball, Director of Microprocessor Product Marketing. “Intel Capital’s longtime investment into Lucid has contributed to the delivery of this important technology, which will afford enthusiasts new choice and flexibility to unleash performance.”

The HYDRA 200 has been tested and optimized to support the Intel platform. In addition to the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors/P55, other Intel motherboard systems incorporating HYDRA 200 are expected to be introduced by the end of the year.

The first announced product with Intel and Lucid technology, the MSI Big Bang high end PC gaming motherboard, is coming to market this holiday season.
