More configurations for the audio CODEC from Dolphin Integration proven with 100 dB

Meylan, March 31, 2008 - Dolphin Integration confirms the success of its celebrated audio CODEC, which enjoys its first birthday with the announcement of its silicon results and its enriched portfolio.

"Our hi-fi sound CODEC, named shCOD100, now is firmly established in mass fabrication" declares Marie Maurel, audio product line manager.

"Our customers are rewarded for their trust in Dolphin's expertise as the silicon results are 100% compliant with our specification and commitments. Dolphin has enabled for more than a year to embed a CODEC with an SNR for the DAC as high as 100 dB on its line-out path, and 95 dB on its headphone path. Beyond the audio-lab measurements, the sound of our CODEC is praised for its richness and awesome quality."

"Our delighted partners are asking for, and receiving, more configurations at various foundries, nodes and processes. They enable them to target different types of applications and to tailor their offer to specific requirements for competitiveness. ShCOD100 is already available in 130, 110 and 90 nm, different feature-rich configurations are off-the-shelf to satisfy the needs of our customer for highly differentiated designs."

From a performance perspective, the 100 dB SNR of shCOD allows all adopters of the Dolphin Integration CODEC to move a step ahead of competition in sound quality. From a cost perspective, this performance is combined with the richest features per silicon area, with a design which allows to minimize PCB costs.

Indeed, system engineers have been amazed by the tolerance of shCOD100 regarding the demands on PCB and passive components.

There is even a specific configuration for SoC integrators targeting mobile phone applications: shCOD100.HI130, which ensures a High Immunity so that transients of high amplitude (due to GSM noise) are not audible on the audio output - with no additional component on PCB!

Such high-performance audio CODECs do not suffer from integration in "noisy" SoC environments thanks to their superior and proven resilience to substrate noise, power supply noise and jitter on master clocks... while squeezing in a surprisingly small footprint for such top-in-class audio quality.

Rich sound and easy integration in SoC and on PCB are now the keys to success for competitive audio CODEC.
