Greater Toronto Airports Authority Maximizes Engineering Productivity with Bentley Geospatial Server and Oracle(R) Spatial

EXTON, Pa.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—December 11, 2007— Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has chosen Oracle(R) Spatial integrated with Bentley Geospatial Server, including ProjectWise Connector for Oracle, to efficiently store, edit, and maintain spatial data used in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Toronto Pearson International Airport. The diverse data will reside in an enterprise-wide geospatial database on Oracle Database 10g Release 2.

GTAA, a long-time user of Bentley products, is responsible for all building, site, and utility information for Toronto Pearson's rapidly expanding facilities. The staff of its Technical Data Center (TDC), which serves as the organization's central data custodian, continually investigates new advances that could make GTAA's substantial spatial datastores more readily available to end users and provide them with richer content.

Mike Robertson, manager of the GTAA's TDC, Facilities Engineering, said, "Bentley's introduction of the Geospatial Server, combined with XML Feature Modeling technology, enables the TDC to migrate core GTAA data sets to an enterprise-wide GIS with only superficial changes to the maintenance environment and applications. This helps avoid large training exercises or the retooling of existing workflows and facilitates a rapid rollover to the new environment."

The new system helps GTAA streamline workflows and integrate spatial information from across the entire enterprise. In addition, it facilitates collaboration, as well as compliance with GTAA's strict standards, among groups such as Project Services, Airside Engineering, Planning, Professional Services, and contractors.

Bentley's XML Feature Modeling capabilities allow GTAA data editors to perform real-time updates in the field using tablet PCs loaded with a MicroStation-based GIS application. The Bentley Geospatial Server brokers geospatial data review/approval workflows to update Oracle Database and manages access to, and the editing of, drawings in DGN, DWG, TIF, and PDF formats. Its ProjectWise Connector for Oracle enables it to use the full capabilities of Oracle Spatial.

Oracle Spatial provides data management and analysis for as-built drawings and thematic maps such as airport statistics by feature type, geospatial aspects of leases, feature coverage areas, and infrastructure overlays. Oracle Spatial support for Web Services also enables data to be published over an intranet for staff that need browser-based access to critical infrastructure information.

About ProjectWise Connector for Oracle

Bentley ProjectWise Connector for Oracle enables Bentley applications to interoperate with any native Oracle Spatial 9i or 10g datastore. Moreover, it preserves the definition of the geospatial data as specified by the user organization, rather than placing vendor-dictated restrictions on the Oracle Database definition. About GTAA and Toronto Pearson International Airport

Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's busiest airport, currently handles more than 1200 arrivals and departures every day. By the year 2020, the number of travelers passing through the airport's gates is expected to climb from 31 million recorded in 2006 to 50 million.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is a not-for-profit corporation with a mandate to provide the Greater Toronto Area with a regional system of airports that meets the current and future demands for air services. When the GTAA took over responsibility for the operation of Pearson International Airport from Transport Canada in 1996, it took on major challenges. To maximize efficiency and to minimize cost, a bold plan was developed to phase the construction of a revitalized airport the size of a small city. For more information, visit www.gtaa.com.
