Altium Opens Up Unified Design to DxDesigner Users

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 08, 2007 -- Altium Limited (ASX: ALU), the leading developer of unified electronic product development solutions, has updated the design translation capabilities of its Altium Designer system to support the import of Mentor Graphics' DxDesigner® files. The enhanced migration tools make it easier for companies and designers currently using a DxDesigner-based point tool solution to upgrade to Altium Designer and gain the benefits of its unified design environment.

Unified electronics design brings board-level design, embedded systems design and programmable devices such as FPGAs into a single design environment. This provides a high degree of automation between traditionally separate design processes and allows engineers to approach design in a new way by utilizing the potential of reconfigurable hardware as a system platform. Unified design shortens development cycles, allows more intelligent products to be designed more quickly, and extends the opportunities for design innovation for both board-level and embedded designers.

The new DxDesigner translator joins existing translators for Mentor Graphics' PADS®, Cadence's OrCAD Capture® and Layout®, and Altium's own PCAD® file formats to provide a comprehensive migration solution for design teams and corporations.

Altium Designer users may now translate complete DxDesigner designs, including schematics and library files, into Altium Designer using an import wizard without having to convert to an intermediate format. DxDesigner does not therefore need to be installed on a user's system. The Altium Designer import wizard includes user-defined controls for the import process to analyze files and suggest defaults and settings such as project folders, links to other libraries, drawing styles and output structures.

Nick Martin, founder and CEO of Altium, comments, "Unified electronics design is about allowing all designers to extend their design skills into new areas. It's about allowing engineers to exploit the potential of today's programmable hardware to create more intelligent products in a faster, more scaleable and secure way."

"Adding DxDesigner translation tools to Altium Designer continues this strategy. In order to speed time-to-market, innovate to maintain competitive edge, and continue to advance their skills, engineers require a new way of designing electronic products. Users of DxDesigner can now embrace this unified design approach."

Throughout October and November, Altium is running a seminar series in major markets around the world to highlight the features and benefits of its Altium Designer unified design solution. For more information or to register visit www.altium.com/community/events.

About Altium Designer

Altium Designer is the electronics design industry's only electronics product development system that removes the barriers imposed by disparate design flows and unifies the different design disciplines involved in electronics product development -- the design of the hardware, the programmable hardware and the embedded software. Altium Designer's unified design environment means users can harness the potential of the latest electronics technologies, and move to a 'soft' design methodology without the need to acquire specialist programmable device expertise. This provides companies with increased design flexibility, reduced production costs and quickens time to market. Altium Designer also delivers the freedom to move between any device, from any vendor, at any time. It lowers total cost of ownership by eliminating the need to integrate extra devices at extra cost to increase functionality, or to create a complete solution.
