Rio Design Automation Expands RioMagic Support to Include Wire Bond, Flip Chip Designs; Rules-Driven I/O Sequencing, RDL Support, Prototyping Added to Package-Aware Chip Design Software

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 5, 2006— RioMagic, the electronics industry's first package-aware chip design software from Rio Design Automation Inc., now includes full support for wire bond and flip chip designs.

Electronic design automation (EDA) software to determine package escape, routability and parasitics for simultaneous tradeoffs between chip and package design, RioMagic adds rules-driven I/O sequencing, prototyping and redistribution routing (RDL) support in this new version that's shipping now.

RioMagic 3.0 also supports prototyping. This capability enables customers to accurately predict chip/package cost and complexity estimates when responding to Request for Quotes (RFQ).

"Design teams responding to requests typically relied on rules of thumb when estimating the package cost or die size," says Joel McGrath, Rio Design Automation's marketing manager. "With RioMagic, they can accurately predict the final packaged chip cost, but can quickly explore the lower cost options, which in the past proved too time consuming."

Another new capability within RioMagic 3.0 is the ability to establish a rule's based I/O sequencing design flow. Sequencing rules for electrostatic discharge (ESD) clamping, filler cells, gaskets cells or other special cells can now be defined upfront based on supplier specifications. RioMagic eliminates the need for spreadsheets to manage I/O sequencing by automatically inserting these cells during initial cell instantiation.

As the design progresses, RioMagic can be used when there are changes in the chip or package design to validate the initial strategy or to re-optimize the I/O plan with the new and updated set of design criteria.

RioMagic will be demonstrated during the 43rd Design Automation Conference (DAC) July 24-27 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco in Booth #3155.

Pricing and Availability

RioMagic runs on the Linux operating system and is priced at $199,000 per year for a three-year, time-based license.
