Athena Design Names EDA Veteran Reichmuth to Head Global Sales, Business Development; Seasoned Executive Joins IC Design Start-up As It Readies First Product Introduction

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 22, 2006— Athena Design Systems, Inc., a new electronic design automation (EDA) start-up focused on critical implementation issues in physical IC design, today announced that James D. Reichmuth has joined the company as vice president of worldwide sales and business development. The veteran of EDA product and services sales and strategic account management will be responsible for driving the company's sales and support strategies as it prepares to introduce its first products.

Reichmuth joins Athena Design from Cadence Design Systems, Inc., where he was most recently a global account manager for one the world's largest chip companies. Prior to that, he served as vice president of sales at mixed-signal design tool start-up Antrim Design Systems, Inc., and as a senior sales representative at Meta-Software, Inc., where he was that company's top sales performer in 1995. He started his career as an ASIC design engineer at Motorola Inc. after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Sacramento.

"Jim brings great qualifications that are well-suited for where we are in our company's evolution. As a proven top performer, he has an ideal combination of strategic selling expertise and experience in bringing a new company and its products to the market," said John Murphy, CEO of Athena Design. "Jim's contacts and sales management skills will be invaluable as we build strategic relationships with early adopters and introduce our initial products."

Athena Design recently unveiled its strategy for delivering a new class of IC optimization tools to address the costly, acutely painful process of achieving design closure for nanometer-scale chips. The company expects to change the way designs are implemented with the IC industry's first "concurrent analysis and optimization" system. Athena Design plans to demonstrate its first commercial products during the 43rd Design Automation Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif. from July 24 through July 28, 2006.

"The opportunity for Athena is an ideal one when you consider the convergence of IC design and implementation issues that leading-edge semiconductor companies are facing. The company's vision and technology address a real need and bring true innovation to this area," said Reichmuth. "The fact that Athena Design already has some initial engagements in the works with well-known companies gives the sales effort a great jumpstart and will be instrumental in helping to shape our go-to-market strategy. I look forward to playing a role in re-shaping the IC design landscape with this breakthrough technology."

Reichmuth will be based in Athena Design's Silicon Valley headquarters and responsible for establishing a global network of sales and support resources. He will oversee the company's sales, and field engineering staffs, and drive strategic relationships with customers and partners worldwide.
