Carbon Design Systems' VSP(TM) Software Honored as DesignCon DesignVision Finalist in System-Level Design Tool Category

WALTHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Feb 01, 2006 -- Carbon Design Systems, an innovator in system-level validation, announced today that its virtual system prototyping software -- VSP™ -- has been selected as a DesignCon DesignVision award finalist in the system-level design tool category.

VSP enables early chip and system validation by allowing multiple levels of abstraction to be simulated together including C, SystemC, RTL, IP cores, transaction-level, and instruction-level models. VSP models are derived from a chip's RTL specification and have the benefits of drop-in interoperability, high-performance, and hardware-accuracy. Carbon's all software approach is replacing validation methodologies that include proprietary hardware accelerators, event-based simulators, FPGA prototypes, and slow co-simulation techniques.

"Our VSP software opens new doors for ESL adoption by allowing customers to incorporate IP and legacy RTL into a system simulation early in their design cycle," noted Alan Swahn, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Carbon Design Systems. "In addition, firmware and the underlying virtual hardware can be validated together before tape-out, rather than waiting for first silicon or spending months to develop an approximate behavioral model."

Recipients of the DesignVision Awards will be announced Tuesday, February 7th during the DesignCon conference. DesignCon will be presented by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) on February 6-9 at Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. The DesignVision Awards distinguish technologies, applications, products, and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the industry. Dr. Barry Sullivan, DesignCon 2006 program director, remarked, "DesignVision Awards recognize innovative products and services that support the work of electronic design engineers, the core audience at DesignCon. The IEC is pleased to provide this recognition to companies whose products exemplify our standard of service to the industry."

About Carbon

Carbon is delivering a high-performance virtual system prototyping solution that enables a system prototype to be rapidly assembled and functionally validated on the desktop months before silicon. Carbon's new software approach allows multiple levels of abstraction to be validated together including C, SystemC, Verilog and VHDL RTL, IP cores, transaction-level, and instruction-level models. The key to VSP is silicon accuracy and performance; the ability to execute billions of cycles and boot embedded operating systems, all with desktop software.
