THine Licenses Its High-speed LCD Driver Technology, eDriCon, to Panasonic

TOKYO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 30, 2014 — THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ:6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, today announced that THine licenses its new LCD driver interface technology, eDriCon, to Panasonic Corporation Semiconductor Business Division. Through licensed THine’s eDriCon, Panasonic’s LCD driver ICs and THine’s timing controllers (TCON) can support advanced automotive infotainment and navigation systems with full-HD resolution.

Panasonic delivers value added LCD driver ICs with high-quality to automotive markets. THine has led high-speed interface technology, especially in consumer electronics markets such as 4Kx2K televisions, delivering de facto standard V-by-One® HS. THine has developed eDriCon, using its know-how in TCON technology.

THine’s eDriCon has a high-speed of 1.2 Gbps for automotive application, reforming V-by-One® technology. It has a clock data recovery (CDR) technology and can reduce cables between TCON and LCD drivers, lowering system costs and space for cables. Through obtaining the license of eDriCon, Panasonic’s LCD driver ICs enable to support automotive navigation systems with higher-resolution.

“THine, as a leader in high-speed interface, delivers value to the markets such as consumer electronics,” said Kazutaka Nogami, President and CEO of THine. “I am proud of this licensing opportunity to Panasonic. THine continues to offer its added value in high-performance and solution in total costs to automotive markets.”

Key benefits of eDriCon Technology

* CDR only with 4-pair cables instead of usual 14-pair data cables and 3 control lines
* Solving cable skew problems by CDR, reducing total costs and board space
* Lowering electromagnetic interference with neither clock cables nor external reference clocks
* Wide variable transmission speed: 480 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps
* Long distance transmission with less distortion by pre-emphasis mode
* eDriCon technology can be licensed by THine
