IAR Systems Boosts Ease of Use for Embedded Development of Renesas SuperH-Based Applications

UPPSALA, Sweden — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 31, 2014 — As being committed to supplying world-leading, high-class development tools for all Renesas MCUs, IAR Systems® is today proud to announce a new version of its complete embedded development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench® for Renesas SuperH. This new edition provides several new features to boost ease of use as well as improved optimizations, updated device support and example projects.

To make the work for developers of SuperH-based applications easier and more efficient, the text editor and the source browser has gained new functionality in this version of IAR Embedded Workbench for SuperH. The text editor now includes features such as auto-completion, parameter hints, code folding, block select and indent, bracket matching, zoom and word/paragraph navigation. New in the source browser is for example functionality for going directly to a chosen declaration, and for finding all references to a symbol.

In the C-SPY® Debugger incorporated with IAR Embedded Workbench, Sampled Graphs are now available. Users can specify variables for which data samples should be collected and view the sampled data either in table format in the Data Sample window or as graphs in the Sampled Graphs window. Also available is a Custom SFR (special function register) window and a Macro Quicklaunch window. The custom SFR window lets users define custom SFRs in C-SPY with selectable access size and type. The Macro Quicklaunch window makes it possible to evaluate expressions and to launch C-SPY macros. The return value from the evaluated macro or expression is shown in a separate column and the user can retrigger the evaluation at any given point. A browsable Call Graph window enables users to easily navigate through the function call hierarchy, displaying all calls made to and from each function from any source file in the active project.

In addition, version 2.30 of IAR Embedded Workbench for SuperH introduces a new license management system (LMS) that simplifies administration through features like commuter licenses, automatic license activation and support for virtual servers.

IAR Systems is the only tool vendor that is able to deliver high-performing development tools for the entire line-up of Renesas MCUs. The new version adds support for the latest SuperH devices together with various new example projects.
