Leading Automotive Supplier Relies on MSC Software’s Marc Nonlinear FEA to Optimize Sealing Systems

New simulation techniques are used for the development and optimization of powertrain sealing systems

SANTA ANA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 11, 2013MSC Software Corporation, the leader in multidiscipline simulation solutions that accelerate product innovation, today announced that Dichtungstechnik G. Bruss GmbH & CO. Kg (BRUSS), a leading developer and manufacturer of sealing systems for automotive powertrain applications, continues to increase functionality, stability, lifetime and assembly of sealing elements with its use of Marc, MSC Software’s nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) technology.

In recent years, new simulation methods have been developed to address automotive manufacturers’ growing needs for components that are more functional, durable and easily assembled to produce end products of higher quality, at a lower cost and with greater sustainability. One of the most instrumental technologies used by BRUSS has been MSC Software’s Marc nonlinear software for numeric calculations of elastomeric (sealing) components.

“Without simulation, it would be difficult for us to meet the continuously growing requirements of our customers,” said Dr. Roland Kral, who is responsible for numeric calculations at BRUSS. “Apart from the high quality and speed of nonlinear calculations, which are necessary for the majority of our products, we have also learned to appreciate the fast and simple formulation of contact conditions.”

Dr. Kral also emphasizes the excellent correlation between simulation results and comparative measurements. In addition to their success with elastomeric components, BRUSS is making great strides in the determination of accurate material characteristics data in their own test laboratory.
